GREENVILLE, N.C. - Former East Carolina All-American and current Kane County Cougars catcher Jake Smith is stepping into a full season of professional baseball for the first time in his life. Throughout Smith's journey as a 2007 Cougar, fans will be able to read first-hand about the talented 23-year old's experience as a member of the Cougars.
Smith, through the help of the Kane County Chronicle newspaper, will be posting a weekly journal entry as part of the sports page each Tuesday -- entitled "The Cougars' Masked Man".
The journal entry will also be made available in a blog format, running online each week on the Chronicle's website. All of Jake's entries will be archived on the Chronicle's website so readers can track No. 13's journey.
Fans can leave comments on the website and wish Jake luck on his minor league experience. Click here to see Jake's web page.
In Jake's first entry of 2007, the North Carolina native writes about the team's season opener last week at Burlington, as well as his first impressions of April weather in Chicago land.
