GREENVILLE, N.C. - Freshman hurler Toni Paisley has been named Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week for the period ending April 22 after recording three wins and 38 strikeouts during the week, according to a release made by the league Monday afternoon.
Paisley went 3-0 in four appearances, throwing three complete games. She struck out 38 batters on the week, averaging 9.5 strikeouts per appearance. The freshman won her 16th game of the season, seventh in conference action and fifth straight. Paisley allowed just four earned runs in four appearances and posted an ERA of 1.64 while recording a 1.80 ERA against the league's top offense. Also against the Miners, she struck out 23 hitters in 15 innings pitched, an average of 1.53 batters per inning. In addition, Paisley threw her eighth complete game shutout against UTEP, which was her fourth in conference play. Her shutout of the Miners marked only the third time this season that the Miners had been held scoreless.
In midweek action, Paisley struck out a career-high 15 against UNC Wilmington while scattering three Seahawk hits. In her win against UNCW, she threw first-pitch strikes on 23 out of the 24 batters she faced.
This award marks Paisley's first career weekly C-USA honor and is the first-ever C-USA weekly softball honor garnered by an ECU freshman.
The Lakewood, Calif. native becomes the third Pirate on the 2007 team to receive a C-USA weekly honor, joining Jessica Johnson (March 5) and Keli Harrell (March 12).
ECU will take the week off before jumping back into conference play this weekend, as they host the league-leading Houston Cougars at the ECU Softball Field. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday while closing out the series with a single game on Sunday. ECU will also honor its three seniors this weekend as Keli Harrell, Jessica Potter and Joyce Roodenburg play their final games at the ECU Softball Field. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
