
High Point Slips Past East Carolina 4-3

GREENVILLE, N.C.- High Point and East Carolina split six singles matches but the Panthers took two of three doubles pro-sets to hand the Pirates a 4-3 non-conference setback Thursday afternoon. East Carolina fell to 1-3 on the year while the Panthers improved their dual match record to 1-1.
After Henrique Viana and Jaroslav Horvath teamed up for an 8-7 (5) victory over Jim Trussler and Charles Bottoni in the No. 1 doubles match, High Point recorded 8-6 and 8-2 triumphs in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights to earn the initial point and get the Panthers off to a 1-0 advantage.
Four of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, with each team winning two. Horvath cruised past Ben Laslaz(6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 slot, Henrik Skalmerud defeated Ben Deloume (6-3, 6-1) at No. 4 and Oakley got past Trussler(3-6, 6-3, 6-2) at No. 5 to register victories for the Pirates. The Panthers used wins from Charles Bottoni (6-2, 6-4 over Aleksey Kochetov), Henri Mangin(6-2, 4-6, 6-4 over Henrique Viana) and Stephenson (6-4, 6-3 over Matt Peeler) at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
The Pirates will remain home to face Big South opponent Liberty Wednesday at the ECU Tennis Complex beginning at 2:30 p.m.
