
Spiders Climb Past East Carolina 5-2

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Richmond used four singles wins and the doubles point to post a 5-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over East Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The win was the Spiders' fourth straight and improved their record to 7-7. The loss dropped the Lady Pirates' spring mark to 12-4.
Richmond opened the match by capturing the doubles point as Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters defeated Alex Smith and Brooke Walter 8-5 at the No. 1 flight before Erin Clark and Xenia Schneider handed Hannah Priest and Varinia Soler a similar 8-5 setback at the No. 2 slot. ECU's third-seeded tandem, Luiza Borges and Mireia Gol, booked the Lady Pirates' only pairs victory with a 9-7 decision over Isabel Arana and Jelena Zivanovic.
The Spiders continued their strong play in the singles competition, winning four of six matchups. Duran opened the action by rolling past Jessica Cook (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 before Clark, Kelly Tidwell and Arana added victories over Soler (3-6, 7-6, 6-2), Walter (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) and Tamara Sachs (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) at the No. 2, 4 and 6 positions, respectively.
The Lady Pirates' pair of triumphs came at No. 3 and No. 5 as Gol rallied to defeat Vosters (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Borges cruised past Schneider (6-1, 6-4).
East Carolina will close out its three-match homestand by hosting UNC Wilmington in non-conference action Thursday beginning at 3 p.m.
