GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman Seth Maness picked up a school-record sixth All-America honor when he was named First-Team Freshman All-America by Baseball America the publication announced Monday.
The Pinehurst, N.C. native, who was named Conference USA Freshman-of-the-Year, had one of the best freshman seasons in Pirate history after posting a 9-2 record with a 3.27 ERA and 81 strikeouts with just 20 walks in 98.1 pitched. Maness became just the second freshmen in ECU history to win nine games (Mickey Britt, 1977).
With his Baseball America (BA) first-team selection, Maness is the first Pirate freshman to be named to six All-America teams, four of those coming on freshman teams. He is the only Pirate in school history to be selected to six all-america squads in the same season and is the fourth Pirate to earn BA freshman all-america honors joining John Williamson (1998), Lee Delfino (1999) and Darryl Lawhorn (2002).
