Shuler And Nichols Added To ECU Coaching Staff

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina head women's basketball coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener announced that Adrienne Shuler and Allison Nichols have been named to the coaching staff Monday. Shuler will serve as an assistant coach, while Nichols will be the director of basketball operations.
Shuler, who played professionally with the WNBA's Washington Mystics, joins the Pirate coaching staff after serving as the head coach at Appalachian State for six seasons. She guided ASU to its first winning season in a decade in 2005-06 and second-most Southern Conference wins in school history during that season. Prior to her appointment at Appalachian State in 2002, she was an assistant coach at Furman for seven seasons, helping the Paladins capture the Southern Conference championship in 1997 and earn an NCAA Tournament birth in 2001.
As a player, she enjoyed an outstanding career at the University of Georgia from 1987-91. Shuler captained the Lady Bulldogs in 1990 and '91 and led them to the 1991 Southeastern Conference (SEC) championship. She also earned All-SEC honors in 1989. She earned her bachelor's degree from UGA in 1992 and received a master's degree from Bellevue University in 2003.
"Adrienne Shuler is a great addition to our staff," said Baldwin-Tener. "Her experience as a head coach will be very valuable for our players and our program. She is a great teacher and motivator. She played at the highest level and has a great understanding of the game. She is a quality person as well as a great coach and I look forward to what she will bring to the team."
Nichols joins the Pirate staff after two years as an assistant coach at Augusta State. She helped coach the Jaguars to a share of the Peach Belt regular season title and a second round NCAA Division II Tournament appearance this past season. Before going to Augusta State, she was an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Loudoun County (Va.) High School. Nichols helped guide Loudoun to a region championship and trip to the state semifinals. She played and earned her degree at Bridgewater (Va.) College and was part of a team that won two regular season conference titles.
"Allison is a quality person and will do an outstanding job for us as the director of basketball operations," stated Baldwin-Tener. "She was responsible for so many areas at Augusta State and I look forward to the positives she brings to our staff with her experiences."
