Thompson, who has collected six hits in the two games, joined Daniel Warzon (3-for-5), Kyle Roller (2-for-5) and Devin Harris (2-for-6) with multi-hit games for East Carolina. Roller and walk-on Billy Walling each cranked home runs in the game, while freshman Bryan Bass set the table with four walks and scored three runs.
Cam Freeman led the Pirates going 3-for-5 with a pair of triples, while Philip Clark, Chris Gosik and John Wooten each added two hits.

The Pirates drew within one, 2-1, on Wooten's single up the middle. Clark and Freeman stroked back-to-back singles before Austin Homan's sac bunt down the third base line pushed the runners into scoring position setting up Wooten's at-bat.
East Carolina scored four runs in the top of the second to extend its lead to 6-1. Harris roped his second hit of the game with a shot to center field that looked to be out of the ball park, but fell to the left of Clark scoring Bass and Dustin Harrington. Thompson pushed across Harris with a single through the right side and Warzon's single up the middle plated Thompson to cap the scoring.
Homan's groundout to third pushed across Freeman for the Pirates drawing the score to 6-2. With one out, Freeman tripled to center field then trotted home when Homan hit a shot to the left of Thompson.
Walling extended East Carolina's lead to seven, 9-2, on a two-run shot down the left field line in the top of the fourth frame. Warzon reached on an infield single then touched home on Walling's shot.
The Pirates strung together five hits in the bottom of the fourth that cut the lead to two, 8-6. Jared Avchen doubled down the left field line, which was followed by an RBI double from Gosik. Jacob Davis singled to right just before Luke Harmer plated Gosik on his ground-out to short. With one down, Clark laced a shot back up the middle before Freeman cleared the bases with his second triple of the night. East Carolina added two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh, which was highlighted by a three-run shot down the right field line by Roller, which pushed the lead to eight, 14-6.
