ORLANDO, Fla. --- The East Carolina men's golf team opened its spring schedule Monday at the Rio Pinar Invitational hosted by UCF at the Rio Pinar Country Club.
The Pirates are in 13th place after two rounds of competition with a total score of 595. The host Knights lead the event after firing a 571 today.
Sophomore Warren Straub has the Pirates' lowest score through the first rounds of competition with a four-over 148. Tripp Brizendine and Harold Varner finished two strokes behind Straub with a six-over 150. Two strokes behind that pair are Jake Colley and David Watkins, who each carded an eight-over 152.
UCF freshman Blayne Barber leads the field with a nine-under 135. Seventeen players finished the day at par or better. Bobby Masa of Texas-Arlington sits in second at five-under 139.
Play at the three-round, 21-team event at the Rio Pinar Country Club will conclude Tuesday morning. The third round will begin at 8:30 a.m. The tournament is open to the public.
