
East Carolina Outlasts UNC-Greensboro, 4-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A doubles sweep and singles victories by Jaroslav Horvath, Aleksey Kochetov and Bryan Oakley lifted East Carolina to a 4-3 non-conference triumph over UNC-Greensboro Thursday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Pirates, who extended their consecutive match win streak to eight straight, improved to 12-1 on the year while the Spartans dropped to 6-4.
East Carolina tallied the first point with similar 8-4 victories by tandems Kochetov/Henrik Skalmerud and Stephen Whitwell/Oakley at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Horvath and Denis Ermilov closed out pairs play by adding a 9-7 win over Arsel Kumdereli and Orcun Seyrek at No. 1.
In singles action, the Pirates picked up victories at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 slots as Horvath dismissed Andrey Bubnov (6-4, 7-6), Kochetov defeated William John (7-6, 6-2) and Oakley fought past Kyle Eddins (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
UNC-Greensboro used wins by Seyrek over Whitwell (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1, Kumdereli over Ermilov (7-6, 6-7, 7-6) at No. 3 and Yaroslav Litus over Skalmerud (7-6, 1-6, 6-3) at No. 4 to capture the other three matches.
The Pirates will return home Sunday to host the College of Charleston and Chowan College in a split doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
