Pirates Season Ends At Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- East Carolina finished tied for seventh place at the 2009 Cavalier Classic when the second round was not completed due to a lighting delay that lasted 1:45. Play was halted at approximately 3:30 p.m. and would not have been able to be resumed until 5:15 p.m. Tournament officials concluded the teams remaining on the course would not be able to complete play before darkness and the second round was not finished. Final results were based on Saturday's first round of play.


South Carolina won the tournament with a team score of two-under 286. Virginia finished second at four-over 292, while Francis Marion was third at six-over 294. The Pirates shot nine-over 297 to finished tied for seventh with UNC Wilmington.


ECU was led by freshman David Watkins, who tied for 21st, at one-over 73. Senior Andre Thorsen tied for 28th at two-over 74. Sophomore Warren Straub and freshman Jake Colley each fired three-over 75, while senior Markus Leandersson carded six-over 78.

UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock took medalist honors at five-under 67.
