
Pirates Win The Ironwood Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina carded a four-over 292 in the final round of the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate on Sunday to win the tournament by 10 strokes over rival UNC Wilmington. The win gave the Pirates their second consecutive tournament title after taking home the trophy from the Furman Intercollegiate a week ago.
The Pirates fired rounds of 291-292-292 for a three-round total of 11-over 875 to claim their first home course victory since 2005.
UNCW shot 21-over to finish in second place followed by James Madison (+22), Wofford (+24) and Rhode Island (+25). James Madison, Wofford and Radford recorded the lowest team scores of the final round shooting even-par 288.
James Madison's Tim Driver tied the course record with a seven-under 65 Sunday to claim individual medalist honors. Driver finished at five-under (73-73-65=211) for the tournament to beat out UNCW's Josh Brock (72-70-70=212) by one stroke.
ECU senior Andre Thorsen (74-68-75=217) and freshman David Watkins (71-73-73=217) finished at one-over tied for seventh place. Senior Markus Leandersson (71-77-75=223) and sophomore Warren Straub (79-74-70=223) tied for 19th at seven-over.
The Pirates will return to the links Friday, April 10, at the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C.
