
Pirates Move Up In National Polls

GREENVILLE, N.C. - After completing a three-game sweep of Memphis and winning the Conference USA regular season title, the East Carolina baseball team moved up dramatically in the national polls this week thanks to a perfect 4-0 week.
The Pirates (41-15, 17-7 C-USA) are ranked in the top-18 in all five major polls after being tabbed No. 15 by Baseball America, No. 16 by the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, No. 17 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Rivals.com and No. 18 by Collegiate Baseball.
This week's rankings marks the longest active streak ranked in at least one poll, 14 consecutive weeks, since the 2004 season when they were ranked 17 straight weeks. Back in 2001, the Pirates were ranked in at least one poll the entire season, which consisted of 19 weeks.
The Pirates will head to Hattiesburg, Miss. the site of the 2009 C-USA Baseball Championships where they will play eight-seed UCF on Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m. (EDT).
