
Wood Named To National All-Star Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - East Carolina senior Ryan Wood was named to the College Foundation and Diamond Sports National All-Star Lineup this week the organization announced Tuesday.
Wood, who became the third Pirate in the last 10 years to hit for the cycle, helped the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 week which included a three-game sweep of Memphis that lead to the 2009 regular season Conference USA championship crown. Against in-state rival UNC Wilmington, he was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored and on the week he batted .625 (10-for-16) with a home run, six RBI and nine runs scored.
On the season, the first-team All C-USA selection is batting .391 (88-for-225) with 13 home runs, 55 RBIs, 78 runs scored, 20 doubles and 46 walks - all ranking among the tops in C-USA.
The Woodbridge, Va. Native is the fourth Pirate to be named to the College Baseball Foundation National All-Star Lineup this season following Kyle Roller (Mar. 25), Seth Maness (Apr. 16) and Kevin Brandt (Apr. 30). Back in 2007, four Pirates (T.J. Hose - Mar. 12, Shane Mathews - Mar. 19, Dale Mollenhauer - Mar. 19 and Harrison Eldridge - Mar. 27) all received the national weekly honor.
ECU will be back in action on Wednesday, May 20 when they face-off against UCF in the first round of the 2009 Conference USA Championships in Hattiesburg, Miss. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. (EDT).
