GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina designated hitter Kyle Roller was named Coca-Cola Hitter-of-the-Week in the Cape Cod League for the first week of the 2009 season the league announced Monday.
The rising senior had a productive week at the plate, batting .429 and leading the league with an .810 slugging percentage. Roller has driven in seven of his team's 22 runs, and leads the Cape in RBI. His two home runs also tie him for second in the CCBL despite only having 21 plate appearances.
Roller also played for Bourne last year, appearing in 42 games and starting in 17 at first base. He batted .270 with two homers, 22 RBI and 20 runs in 2008 for the Braves, and his 12 doubles ranked him second in the league.
The Rockingham, N.C. native, who earned first-team All-Conference USA and first-team All-America honors from Ping!Baseball, was selected in the 47th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Oakland A's on June 11.
