Pirates Open Season At Maryland Intercollegiate

CAMBRIDGE, Md. --- The East Carolina men's golf team stands in 15th place after one round of play at the season-opening Maryland Intercollegiate at the River Marsh Golf Club. The Pirates fired a team total of 306 and are 26 shots behind tournament leader North Carolina who carded a team score of four-under 280.
A quintet of sophomores are competing for the Pirates this weekend. David Watkins carded the Pirates' lowest score of the round with a three-over 74, while Harold Varner fired a five-over 76. Adam Stephenson is six-over after 18 holes with Conner Sock in the clubhouse at eight-over and Jake Colley in at nine-over.
Henry Zouton of North Carolina leads the field at five-under followed by four players at two-under.
The second round of the tournament, which was suspended this evening due to darkness, will resume Sunday morning at 7:15 a.m. Third round play will begin immediately following the completion of round two.
