MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - Sophomore Adam Stephenson paced the East Carolina University men's golf team Monday through the first two rounds of the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club, finishing at even-par after 36 holes. The Pirates are in ninth place in the team standings.
The Pirates shot a combined 14-over-par 590 with rounds of 297 and 293. Stephenson shot two-under par in the second round after firing a two-over par on the first 18 holes.
Conner Sock (75-71), Harold Varner (74-72) and David Watkins (73-73) each shot a two-over 146 (74-72), while Jake Colley (76-78) fired a 10-over 154. Freshman Zach Edmondson (81-78) carded a 15-over 159.
UNC Wilmington leads the team standings, owning a seven-stroke edge on Wake Forest. Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow shot seven-under on the day and leads the individual standings by two shots on UNC Greensboro's Robert Hoadley.
The final round of the tournament begins at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
