GREENVILLE, N.C. - Jackie Simpson, who led the University of Wisconsin to four NCAA Tournament appearances as a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America setter, has joined the East Carolina volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach according to an announcement by head coach Pati Rolf Friday.
Simpson served as the starting setter for the Badgers from 2004-07, leading UW to two Elite Eight appearances and a Sweet Sixteen showing. In addition to her All-America status, she was named AVCA All-Mideast Region twice as well as garnered a pair of All-Big Ten honors. Simpson also ended her career ranked second in Wisconsin history for career assists (5,235) and 12th in blocks. The assist mark also puts her in the top 10 on the Big Ten career charts.
In 2007, Simpson was awarded AVCA national player-of-the-week accolades while helping Wisconsin to a 25-7 record. During the season prior (2006), she earned the first of her two All-Big Ten first-team selections and also finished in the top five on the team in blocking and digs.
Most recently, she was the head coach for the varsity squad at Oregon High School in Oregon, Wisc. Simpson also coaches club teams with members ranging in age from 12 to 18. She is the co-owner (with former teammate Shelia Shaw) of Sports Up, LLC - a summer volleyball camp company.
Simpson started her career at Downers Grove South High School, leading her team to the 2002 state title as well as earning all-state and all-america laurels. She played her club volleyball with Sports Performance in Chicago, Ill., as her squad won the 2003 USA Volleyball Junior Olympic national championship.
Simpson also holds professional playing experience abroad, having served as the starting setter for clubs in Germany (2008) and Cyprus (2009).
