Volleyball Adds Three For 2010

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Hannah Allgood (Yadkinville, N.C.), Kasey Kavanaugh (Anchorage, Alaska) and Andrea Queck (Charlotte, N.C.) have signed national letters-of-intent to attend and play volleyball at East Carolina beginning in the fall of 2010, according to an announcement by head coach Pati Rolf.
Allgood, a 5-9 middle hitter, is currently completing her senior year at Forsyth Country Day School. She helped the Furies to 30 total wins in three seasons after transferring from Forbush High School and collected 612 kills, 521 digs, 120 aces and 49 solo blocks. Allgood garnered numerous honors, including 2007, 2008 and 2009 Piedmont Athletic Conference of Independent Schools (PACIS) All-Tournament Team, 2008 All-County, 2009 PACIS Player-of-the-Year, 2009 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) All-State and 2009 End of Summer Slam All-Tournament accolades. She was also selected to the 2009 Oasis Shrine Bowl. Allgood earned 11 varsity letters, including five in basketball as a shooting guard and forward as well as three in softball as a shortstop and center fielder.
"After competing as a talented three-sport athlete in high school, Hannah will bring a great amount of athleticism and intensity to ECU," assistant coach Katie Virtue stated. "Her competitive spirit and determination will be an advantage for us in the coming seasons."
Kavanaugh, a 6-2 setter, is set to arrive in Greenville this fall after a successful prep career at Chugiak High School. She led the Mustangs to a 40-15 record in three seasons, including an appearance in the 2008 Alaska 4A state championship game as well as a Cook Inlet Conference and region championship in 2009. In 2007, Kavanaugh earned Chugiak's Rookie-of-the-Year, Most Promising and Most Inspirational awards before being named best setter in the state in 2008. She also picked up a pair of first-team all-conference and all-state accolades in 2008 and 2009. Kavanaugh served as a post player for the Mustang basketball team for two seasons, earning two varsity letters and helping her team to the 2008-09 conference, region and state championships. Additionally, she earned valuable experience in the USA Volleyball program at the Select A2, Youth Holiday and Junior Holiday High Performance camps as well as the Youth A2 and Continental Team Championship Tournaments.
"Kasey will be an incredible asset to our program," Virtue remarked. "She brings a wealth of experience from her many opportunities with the USA Volleyball Program. Kasey is an exciting young athlete with amazing potential. She is already a strong leader and we expect that she will make a positive impact right away."
Queck, a 5-9 setter, is currently a senior at Myers Park High School. In her final prep season, she amassed 98 kills, 46 aces, 59 blocks, 73 digs and 668 assists. Queck earned four varsity letters and served as a captain her senior season while leading the Mustangs to a 64-12 record, a North Carolina 4A state championship game berth, two state semifinal appearances and a third-round state playoffs showing. She collected a variety of honors in 2009, including Myers Park Most Valuable Player, All-Southwest Conference laurels, High Performance Carolina Region Team setter experience and a selection to the North Carolina Senior All-Star Tournament. Queck is the first athlete in her family to receive a scholarship to play a sport in college.
"Andrea is a very versatile athlete," Virtue said. "She is an extremely hard worker who will fill several roles on our team. Andrea also spent time with a USA Volleyball High Performance Regional team last summer. Her energetic and enthusiastic personality is contagious and we are extremely excited to have her with us.
"In addition to their abilities on the court, Kasey, Andrea and Hannah are dedicated to their academics and strive for success in the classroom," Virtue concluded. "We look forward to each of them contributing to our Pirate Volleyball tradition of academic excellence."
