
ECU Escapes The Citadel 4-3

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The doubles point secured East Carolina’s 4-3 win over non-conference opponent The Citadel in men’s tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center.
No. 74 East Carolina improved to 11-3 on the season while The Citadel dropped to 1-7.
Henrik Skalmerud and Stian Tvedt led off doubles with an 8-3 win over Tripp Larkin and Luis Morett. The Citadel responded with an 8-4 win at the No.1 slot to tie the competition at 1-1. With the point on the line, Bryan Oakley and Massimo Mannino defeated David Orces and Derek Dickey 8-4 to give ECU a 1-0 lead.
East Carolina split singles, taking three in straight sets. The bottom of the line up helped clinch the 4-3 win as Mannino (No. 4) won the second point for the Pirates posting a 6-1, 6-1 score over Josh Cook followed by John Schmitt over Dickey 6-2, 6-1 (No. 6) and Oakley over Morett 7-5, 6-0 (No. 5).
ECU forced extra sets but eventually fell to the Citadel’s Orces (No. 3.), Yufo Sutantio (No. 2) and Alberto Diaz (No. 1), respectively.
The Pirates will take some time off before hosting Longwood next Friday, March 19. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
