GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the second time in as many years, the East Carolina men's tennis program has earned a place in the national rankings as it stands No. 74 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Poll according to a release from the organization late Tuesday.
The Pirates, who have jumped out to a 10-3 record so far this spring, are one of four Conference USA teams listed among the top 75 teams in the nation - joining No. 31 Tulsa, No. 51 Rice and No. 61 UCF.
Shawn Heinchon, who is in his sixth year heading the East Carolina men's team, led the Pirates to a school-record single-season victory total last spring with a 19-5 mark - surpassing the previous standard of 16 that was set in 1957 and 2000.
ECU, which has dropped two of its last three matches, will try to rebound today when it faces The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., beginning at 2 p.m.
