IRVING, Texas - For the second time in three weeks, East Carolina junior Toni Paisley was named the Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week according to an announcement Monday by league officials. Paisley picked up two wins and a save in leading the Pirates to a 3-1 record on their spring break trip to California. The weekly honor is the 10th of the Lakewood, Calif., native's career.
For the week, Paisley allowed just nine hits and one earned run in 17.1 innings of work for a 0.40 ERA. She did not walk a batter while striking out 23.
Wednesday at Fresno State, she handed the Bulldogs their first home loss of the season. Paisley struck out nine to bring her career total to 642, good for seventh on the Conference USA all-time list. A solo home run in the seventh inning was the lone earned run she gave up in her three appearances.
In Paisley's next outing against Cal State Fullerton in Berkeley, Calif., she allowed one single and retired the final 14 batters in order. Her 12 strikeouts marked the fifth time this season, and 25th of her career, reaching double-digit whiffs. Of the first seven outs she recorded, six were strikeouts.
She completed the week pitching the last two-and-a-third innings against UC Davis to earn her second save of the season. She surrendered only a single and struck out two. The save was also the fifth of her career, tying her with Laurie Davidson (2000-02) for third on the East Carolina all-time list.
The Pirates (11-11) return to action this weekend for their first C-USA games of the season. ECU travels to defending league champion Tulsa (13-10, 2-1 C-USA) for a three-game series, beginning Saturday with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. EST.
