
Pirates Rally Past UNC Greensboro, 4-3

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina dropped the doubles point but turned in four singles matches to earn the win and end UNC Greensboro's five-match win streak Wednesday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The Pirates improved to 13-4 while UNCG dropped to 11-3 overall.
ECU and UNC Greensboro split the opening doubles matches with identical scores as John Schmitt and Stephen Whitwell defeated Kyle Eddins and William John, 8-2, at No.3 before Yaroslav Litus and Jacob Wright delivered Massimo Mannino and Bryan Oakley the same fate at the No.2 position.
After three tie-breaks, Arsel Kumdereli and Orcun Seyrek claimed the doubles point for the Spartans with a 9-8 triumph over Jaroslav Horvath and Henrik Skalmerud at the No.1 slot.
On a roll the Spartans' Seyrek (No.1) dismissed Horvath 6-3, 6-0 and Litus (No. 4) posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Skalmerud. East Carolina would tie the match at 3-3 with wins at No. 6, No. 3 and No. 2, respectively. Oakley (ECU) earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over John followed by Mannino over Wright 6-1, 6-3 and Whitwell over Arsel Kumdereli6-2, 6-3.
The No. 5 matchup between Schmitt and Timion Meijs would go into an extra set with Schmitt winning the opening and eventually the closing set 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to win the match for himself and his teammates.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday when they take on Limestone at the ECU Tennis complex. First serve set for 3p.m.
