GREENVILLE, N.C. - Coming off a perfect 3-0 week where the East Carolina baseball team claimed the 2010 Keith LeClair Classic crown, the Pirates continued their climb up the national polls Monday afternoon.
For the first time since 2004, the Pirates (7-3) cracked the Top 10 in one of the national polls after being ranked No. 10 by Rivals.com this week. During ECU's record-setting season in 2004 they garnered final Top 10 rankings by Baseball America (No. 8), USA Today/ESPN (No. 9) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (No. 10).
This week the Pirates were also tabbed No. 13 by Baseball America (up one), No. 17 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (up two), No. 17 by Ping!Baseball (up three), No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball (up one) and No. 21 by USA Today/ESPN poll (same).
This week's ranking marks the 23rd consecutive week, dating back to the start of the 2009 season, that the Pirates have been ranked in at least one national poll.
ECU will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, Mar. 10 when they travel to California to take on Cal State Northridge with a 5 p.m. (EST) first pitch scheduled. The Pirates will stay out west and close out the week with a three-game tilt against Pepperdine starting on Thursday, Mar. 11.
