
Pirates End Regular Season With 5-2 Loss

ELON, N.C. - Elon used four singles wins, three coming in straight-sets, and the doubles point to post a 5-2 non-conference men's tennis victory over East Carolina Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Elon improved its mark to 8-13 while ECU dropped to 18-7.
The Phoenix built a lead and clinched the doubles point when the top-seeded tandem of - Alberto Rojas and Chase Helpingstine posted an 8-4 victory over Jaroslav Horvath and Henrik Skalmerud. Philip Nemec and Cody S-MacDowell followed with the 8-2 win over Massimo Mannino and Bryan Oakley at No.2 to take a 1-0 advantage but ECU would take the final matchup. Stephen Whitwell and Stian Tvedt knocked off Thomas Darling and Clark Howell 8-4.
In singles play, Elon took four of the six matches, picking up victories at the No. 1, No. 2, and No.3 and No. 4 flights. Nemec cruised past Horvath (2-6, 7-6, 6-3), Helpingstine defeated Whitwell (6-2, 6-3), Rojas dispatched Mannino (7-5, 6-2) and S-MacDowell turned back Skalmerud (6-2, 6-2).
John Schmitt overcame Darling (7-6, 5-7, 6-3) at No. 5 and Oakley cruised past Carlos Arboleda (6-1, 6-3) at No. 6 to account for ECU's tallies.
The Pirates will turn their attention to the Conference USA Championships which will begin Thursday, April 22 in Tulsa, Oak.
