WALLACE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team concluded the opening day of the 2010 River Landing Intercollegiate in fourth-place, behind co-leaders North Carolina and UNC Wilmington, and third-place Wofford.


The Pirates carded a two round team score of 573 (285-288) to finish the first two rounds of play eight strokes behind the Tar Heels (286-279=565) and Seahawks (283-282=565). ECU sits just two strokes back of the Terriers (284-287=571) and holds a four stroke advantage of fifth-place Michigan State (294-282=577).
UNCW's Josh Brock holds the individual lead through two rounds with a score of six-under-par (69-69). His two-round tally of 138 leaves him one stroke ahead of North Carolina's Hanry Zaytoun (71-68=139) and Wofford's Ben Wright (70-69=139). ECU sophomore David Watkins (71-169=140) and UNCW's Ryan Sullivan (73-67=140) are tied for fourth-place at four-under-par.
ECU sophomore Harold Varner (72-69=141) is tied for sixth place at three-under-par, while his classmate Jake Colley (69-74=143) is tied for 14th at one-under-par. Freshman Adam Stephenson (74-72-146) completed the first two rounds at two-over, while senior Matt Sterling carded a 36-hold total of three-over 147 (74-73).
The third and final round of the tournament is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 3.
