GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior Zach Woods struck out a career-best 15 batters in the Pirates 8-0 win over Elon last week. The right-hander faced three over the minimum and improved to 4-1 on the season. Over the weekend, he worked 3.2 innings with four strikeouts to record his first collegiate save against Tulane in ECU's 15-6 victory.

Woods picked up his fourth win of the season and first career save on the week ... Against Elon he struck out a career-best 15 batters ... He fanned seven of the first nine batters he faced, including the side in the first after allowing a leadoff single ... Became the just the third Pirate since 1940 to strike out 15 batters in a game ... He faced two over the minimum after giving up a base hit to start the game until he ran into trouble in the eighth with two outs, which included 10 in a row from the fourth to the seventh when he issued a two-out walk ... In all he worked 7.2 inning surrendering three hits and one walk, while facing 29 batters ... Against Tulane recorded his first career save with 3.2 shutout innings where he allowed two hits, two walks and struck out four ... Has not allowed a run in last three outings a streak that spans 12.2 innings dating to the last out he recorded against N.C. A&T on Mar. 24 ... On the season boasts a 3.29 ERA with 53 strike outs to just nine walks in 38.1 innings.

Kyle Roller batted .313 (5-for-16) with a home run and six RBI ... The senior first baseman roped a pair of doubles in the final game of the series against Tulane ... Over the week he walked six times, was hit four times and recorded a .556 on-base percentage ... He scored a run in all five games (six overall) ... Recorded multiple RBI contest in the first two game of the Tulane series ... Moved into fourth place on the school's all-time RBI list with 183 ... Smacked his 46th career home run against Tulane in the series finale and now has seven on the season, which ranks third on the squad ... He extended his school record for hit by pitches to 48 after being plunked four times on the week.
Freshman John Wooten returned to the lineup this week batting a team-best .412 (7-for-17) with four RBI ... He collected three doubles and scored three runs ... On the week he recorded a pair of multi-hit games and tied his career-high with four hits in game one of the doubleheader against Tulane where he was 4-for-6 with two RBI, two runs scored and two doubles.
Austin Homan tied Wooten for the team lead with a .412 (7-for-17) average ... He drove in five runs and scored three while smacking his first career home run in 155 official at-bats ... Extended his current hit streak to seven games with a 1-for-4 performance in the series finale against Tulane ... Picked up a pair of multi-hit and multi-RBI games on the week, pushing his career totals to 10 and nine respectively.
Redshirt freshman Philip Clark extended his current hitting streak to a personal-best nine games over the weekend ... The Norfolk, Va. native was 2-for-5 against in-state foe UNC-Wilmington with an run scored and RBI ... Started 3 of 5 games played in left field.
Junior Seth Maness recorded his fifth-straight win as a starter in the Pirates 15-6 win over Tulane in game one of the doubleheader ... He worked 5.1 innings allowing six runs (all earned) on 11 hits with four punch outs and three walks ... With the win he improved to 23-7 all-time at ECU and 13-1 all-time against Conference USA teams.
True freshmen Jake Smith and D.J. Jauss had stellar performances on the week ... Harris worked 2.2 innings in a pair of games and helped secure the shutout against Elon on Mar. 30 after tossing 1.1 innings without allowing a hit and striking out one ... He followed that with another 1.1 outing against UNC-Wilmington where he allowed one run on one hit ... Jauss pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings against Tulane in the series opener where allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one ... He has not allowed a run in three appearances (2.2 innings).
Head Coach Billy Godwin recorded his 179th win as the Pirates skipper Saturday in game one of the doubleheader against Tulane and picked up career win No. 441 ... He currently ranks fourth on the all-time wins list at ECU and needs seven wins to move into third place passing ECU Hall of Famer Earl Smith (185).
