RALIEGH, N.C. - East Carolina shot a two-round total of 600 (303-297) Friday and is in 12th-place after the first two rounds of play in the inaugural Wolfpack Invitational at the new par 71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course located on N.C. State's Centennial Campus.
North Carolina leads the field at 10-over (298-280=578), seven strokes ahead of host N.C. State (294-291=585) and eight in front of third-place Duke (296-290=586).
The Pirates sit just two strokes outside the top 10, trailing 11th-place Maryland by one and 10th-place Purdue by two. ECU has a four-stroke lead over 13th-place Wake Forest and an six-stroke cushion over 14th-place Virginia Tech.
Florida State's Drew Kittleson leads the field of 90 golfers, as he was the only golfer not over par after two rounds. Kittleson is at even-par (74-68=142) and 36 holes, thanks in large part to a round of three-under (68) in the second round today.
ECU sophomore Harold Varner shaved eight strokes off his first round score during round two and finished with a 36-hole tally of four-over-par 146 which has him tied for 12th. He is one of 18 golfers within four strokes the lead.
Pirate junior Warren Straub carded a seven-over 149 (74-75) and is tied for 31st. Freshman Michael Marshburn stands two strokes behind Straub at nine-over (75-75=151). Sophomores David Watkins and Jake Colley each struggled Friday. Watkins completed the day at 14-over (77-79=156) and Colley finished 18-over (83-77=160).
Third round action will start at 7:30 a.m., with teams teeing off of No. 1 and No. 10.
