Freshman Petra Vogel was named to the All-Conference USA Women's Tennis Second Team, according to a recent announcement by the league. The Zizers, Switzerland native set an East Carolina single-season record with 18 singles wins.
In all, Vogel posted an 18-4 mark playing primarily at the No. 2 (6-1) and No. 4 (10-3) positions. She closed the campaign winning six of the last seven and 15 of 16 matches after splitting her first six. Vogel also captured the only matches she played at No. 1 (1-0) and No. 6 (1-0).
The rookie enjoyed a season-best 10-match victory streak from Feb. 20 to March 27 and won her only C-USA match on the schedule with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 decision over UCF's Alexis Rodriguez in a No. 2 matchup April 17. Vogel nailed down an impressive 14 of 18 triumphs in two sets, but logged three-set victories in three of the last four matches played (6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Davidson's Teresa Wang and 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 against No. 69 Charleston Southern's Andrea Shutte to go along with the UCF win).
