Pirates Open Play At ECU Fall Shootout

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina University men's tennis team ended its first day of action at the ECU Fall Shootout Friday at the River Birch Tennis Center with 10 victories.
The men's squad opened the tournament by claiming all seven singles matches with Richmond. Included in those wins were three straight-set decisions. Jaroslav Horvath played the No. 1 spot for ECU and responded with a 6-3, 6-2 over James's Sebastian Fauchet. Mario Martinez was also a straight set winner over Pablo Arana 6-1, 6-2. Joran Vliegen defeated Ethan Dunbar 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Massimo Mannino and John Schmitt both bounced back to win their matches after losing the first set. David Masciorini and Simon Escourrou were victorious in third set tiebreakers.
Doubles action concluded the day for the men's squad which won three of four matches.
The ECU Shootout continues action Saturday at the River Birch Tennis Center with singles matches against College of Charleston and doubles matches versus James Madison.
