Men's Tennis Competes At ITA Carolinas Regional

CHAPEL Hill, N.C. --- Nicolas Soriano and Joran Vliegen continued their fall seasons over the weekend at the 2011 ITA Carolinas Regional held at the University of North Carolina, advancing to the round of 16 as a doubles team. Vliegen reached the round of 32 in singles action.
The Pirate duo opened doubles play with an 8-4 victory over USC Upstate's Matthias Kidler and Edgar Rodriguez in the round of 64. They followed by disposing of Presbyterian's Rafal Berghaus and Grayson Mills, 8-3, before falling to the Duke tandem of Henrique Cunha and Chris Mengel, 8-3.
Vliegen opened singles play by defeating Winthrop's Guy Kubi in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) and before ousting Elon's Cameron Silverman in the same manner (6-3, 6-4). Vliegen was then eliminated by Wake Forest's David Hopkins (6-3, 6-3).
Soriano fell to South Carolina's Andrew Adams in the opening round of singles competition (6-3, 6-2).
ECU will conclude its fall season at The Citadel Fall Invitational, Oct. 28-30, in Charleston, S.C.
