
ECU In Seventh At General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team stands in seventh place after the first two rounds of play at the annual General Hackler Championship with two Pirates in the top 11 of the individual standings.
ECU shot rounds of 294 and 305 for a two-round score of 599. Virginia, ranked No. 17 nationally, leads the field by 11 strokes after the first day of play at TPC of Myrtle Beach. The Cavaliers fired scores of 288 and 295 for a 583 first-day total.
Tennessee and Coastal Carolina are for second-place at 594, No. 18 Auburn and Augusta State are tied for fourth at 597, followed by Pepperdine in sixth at 598.
ECU is seventh, 23 strokes in front of 23rd-ranked Wake Forest, which is in 13th at 622.
Juniors Harold Varner and David Watkins are ECU's top individuals, tying for 11th at two-over 146. Varner shot one-over in each round, while Watkins carded a two-over in the second round after shooting par in round one. Teammate Zach Edmondson is tied for 33rd at nine-over 153 after rounds of one-over 73 and eight-over 80.
Lamar's Kevin Hesbois holds the individual lead at four-under 140 after shooting rounds 75 and 65.
The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Monday.
