
ECU Finishes Seventh At General Hackler Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team fired a final-round 306 to place seventh at the annual General Hackler Championship, which concluded Tuesday.
ECU finished the tournament at 41-over (294-305-306), one stroke behind sixth-place Coastal Carolina (40-over 904) and three strokes ahead of eighth-place North Florida (44-over 908). Ninth-ranked Augusta State edged No. 17 Virginia for the team title, shooting 14-over. Thirteenth-ranked Auburn finished third at 26-over, followed by Tennessee in fourth at 29-over and Pepperdine in fifth at 33-over.
The Pirates finished 24 strokes ahead of No. 22 Wake Forest in 12th at 65-over.
Only three players finished the tournament under-par, while two additional players shot par for the tournament. Augusta State's Henrik Norlander finished at six-under 210 to earn individual medalist honors. Virginia's Amory Davis finished as runner-up at two-under 214 and Pepperdine's Andrew Putnam placed third at one-under 215.
Junior David Watkins carded a final-round 72 to finish sixth at two-over (72-74-72=218). Watkins carded ECU's best 54-hole score at TPC of Myrtle Beach by five strokes. Harold Varner tied for 13th after shooting seven-over (73-73-77=223), while Zach Edmondson finished 38th at 16-over (73-80-79=232).
The East Carolina men's golf team returns to action March 18-20 at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
