Lewis Named C-USA Hitter-Of-The-Week

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina freshman outfielder Jordan Lewis has been selected as the Conference USA Hitter-of-the-Week, according to an announcement Monday by league officials. The selection is the first of Lewis' career and the initial league honor for a Pirate this season.
Lewis led the ECU offense last week, posting team-best marks in batting average (.533), hits (8), doubles (2), slugging percentage (.667), total bases (10) and on-base percentage (.563). She also tied for second on the squad with three runs batted in. The freshman had at least one hit in each of the five games and did not record any strikeouts.
The Fremont, Calif., product went a combined 3-5 during the doubleheader against Charleston Southern Tuesday and drove in the game-winning run in the second contest with her first-inning single. In the opener at Conference USA rival Marshall Saturday, Lewis collected a career-high tying three hits, drove in a run and scored another to lead ECU to the 10-1 win. In the second game, she quickly put the Pirates ahead 1-0 with a double to left field in the opening inning. Sunday, she had one of East Carolina's three hits.
For the week, Lewis reached base 67.7 percent of the time leading off an inning and had a team-best three hits with runners in scoring position. She became the first ECU player to earn hitter-of-the-week accolades since Marina Gusman-Brown March 29, 2010, also following the series against Marshall.
Lewis and the Pirates (23-9, 3-3 C-USA) have the week off before returning to the field Saturday when they host league-leading Tulsa (22-7, 6-0 C-USA). The last two years, the programs have finished first or second in the conference regular-season standings. The three-game series starts with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
