IRVING, Texas - For the second straight year, East Carolina junior David Watkins was named to the Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team the league office announced Friday.
The junior finance major is a three-time selection to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, while earning an Academic Medal in 2009. Watkins and his teammates have led the Pirates to a Golfweek No. 34 national ranking entering the C-USA Championship. He has placed among the Top 20 in 10 of 11 tournaments played this season, with five Top 10 finishes.
The list consists of student-athletes who hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled tournaments, following a vote by the league's sports information contacts.
Joining Watkins on the team are Marshall junior Bosten Miller, Memphis junior Jack Belote, Rice senior Michael Whitehead, Southern Miss junior Nick Brown and Tulsa sophomore Chris Worrell.
These six are scheduled to compete in the 2011 C-USA Men's Golf Championship, which will be held April 24-26, at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
