GREENVILLE, N.C. - On the heels of its second-straight Conference USA series win, the East Carolina baseball team garnered its first national ranking of the 2011 season coming in a No. 29 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The Pirates (27-13, 8-7) and are one of three C-USA schools ranked this week by the NCBWA joining Southern Miss (No. 20) and Rice (No. 22). For the seventh-straight week ECU received votes for the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll.
ECU has arguably its most difficult week of the season approaching as they will travel to former Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion for a Tuesday night game, before returning to Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium for the first of four consecutive games against nationally ranked teams (No. 15 North Carolina/April 27 and No. 20 Southern Miss/April 29-May 1).
