IRVING, Texas – East Carolina senior pitcher Toni Paisley added to her award haul Tuesday, earning a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team for the second-straight year. The Lakewood, Calif., native holds a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average as a social work major.
Last week, Paisley was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Second Team for the first time in her career.
Paisley has been selected to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.0+ GPA) each year at East Carolina and, in February, was named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She graduated in May of 2010 and interned as a case manager with Pitt County Schools, working with students who were on legal probation and whose goals are to have perfect attendance and graduate from high school.
On the field, Paisley was tabbed the Preseason C-USA Pitcher-of-the-Year and finished the regular season with a 27-11 record to go along with a 1.11 earned run average. She is a top 25 finalist for the Amateur Softball Association of America's Player of the Year Award as well as the No. 10 overall selection in the 2011 National Pro Fastpitch senior draft.
This year, she became the C-USA career record holder in wins (113), strikeouts (1,238), innings pitched (1,039.0) and appearances (176). Additionally, Paisley ranks 21st in NCAA Division I history in strikeouts and 27th in victories.
East Carolina (36-20, 14-10 C-USA) returns to action Thursday in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. The Pirates enter as fifth seed and play fourth-seeded Memphis (35-11, 15-7 C-USA) at 4:30 p.m. at the ECU Softball Stadium.
