Reinheimer Named MVP of NECBL All-Star Game

LYNN, Mass. -- East Carolina shortstop Jack Reinheimer was named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star game earlier this week after helping the Eastern Division to a 3-1 win at Fraser Field.
The rising sophomore, who is playing for the Newport Gulls, doubled, scored a run and recorded four assists including turning a double play in the mid-summer classic.
Reinheimer, the East's starting shortstop, stroked a one-out double off the West's Nick Williams to give the East runners on second and third. In the ensuing at-bat, the Gulls' Kyle Johnson reached on an error to score Tim Quinn for the East's first run. Reinheimer later scored the game-winning on a single by Brett Mollenhauer to make it 2-0.
Reinheimer also had four assists and a putout at shortstop, including a 6-3 double play in the third inning. The Charlotte, N.C. native became the second Newport player in team history to earn All-Star Game MVP honors after Mike Melillo in 2008.
On the season, Reinheimer is batting .250 (32-for-128) with eight doubles, 11 RBI, nine walks and 12 runs scored in 33 games helping the Gulls' to the first-half crown with a 25-13 overall record.
