Men's Tennis Wins Five Flights At ECU Fall Shootout

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team had three individuals and a pair of doubles teams win their respective flights at the three-day ECU Fall Shootout on Sunday at the River Birch Tennis Center.
Sophomore Joran Vliegen and freshman Nicolas Soriano teamed to win Flight A in doubles, while each won his respective singles flight as did senior David Masciorini.
Vliegen captured the Flight A title without losing a set posting wins a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Richmond's Ethan Dunbar and a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Mark Trintignac of College of Charleston. Soriano also swept his matches to win Flight B.
After beating Richmond's Dylan Schrode in straight sets, Masciorini was forced into a third set by Charleston's Chris Toussaint. Masciorini won the first set 6-1 and then rallied to win the tiebreaker, 1-0 (9), after losing the second set, 3-6.
Vliegen and Soriano defeated James Madison's tandem of Bertrand Moulin and Florant Sentenac, 8-3, then disposed of Richmond's Ethan Dunbar and Paul Nahon, 8-4.
ECU sophomore Mario Martinez and junior John Schmitt won doubles Flight C with an 8-6 win over Ryan Pool and Bastien Russo of James Madison.
The Pirates will continue their fall season at the Elon Invitational beginning Oct. 7.
