Varner Places Second At Sea Best Seafood Invitational

PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. - The East Carolina men's golf team entered Tuesday's final round of the Sea Best Seafood Invitational in seventh-place but carded a the lowest score of the third round, 8-over 296, to finish in fourth place.
The Pirates tallied a three-round 909 (+45) and finished 25 strokes behind two-time champion Florida at the 7,122, par-72 PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass.
Senior Harold Varner fired a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to finish just two strokes back of individual medalist TJ Vogel of Florida. Varner (74-70-74=218) began the day in third-place, four strokes back of Vogel, but was unable to overtake him despite two birdies and an eagle. It was the second runner-up finish of his career, which has included three first-place trophies.
Ryan Eibner carded a 4-over 76 in the foul round, but still finished in the top-10 as he tied for ninth-place with Liberty's Ian McConnell at 6-over 222 (75-71-76). It was the first top-10 finish of his career.
ECU senior Zach Edmondson entered the third round in 46th-place, but moved up 18 spots in the final individual standings by shooting par-72. Edmondson parred the final 36 holes to finish tied for 28th after firing a 15-over in the first round.
Seniors David Watkins (81-83-79=241) and Jake Colley (87-84-74=245) finished a distant 56th and 60th.
The Pirates will be back in action Feb. 26-27 when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., for the Seahawk Intercollegiate.
