After losing the doubles point, East Carolina used four singles victories to triumph over Liberty, 4-3, on Friday. After beginning the match outdoors, play concluded inside the ECU Indoor Tennis Center when rain arrived in the area.
ECU improved to 6-2 on the year, including a perfect 5-0 record at home with Liberty falling to at 2-2 for the year.
The visiting Flames captured the first point by winning two of three doubles matches. Liberty's No. 2 tandem of Giancarlo Lemmi and Wayne Harrell posted 8-5 win over David Masciorini and Niels Cleeren as did Shea Thomas and Dillon Segur against John Schmitt and Mario Martinez in the No. 3 matchup. The Pirates' lone doubles triumph was at No. 1 where Nicolas Soriano and Joran Vliegen edged Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt, 9-8 (10-8).
The homestanding Pirates were able to erase their early deficit, as they claimed each of the first three singles matches in straight sets. Vliegen defeated Tuus at No. 1 (6-4, 6-3), Soriano bested Thomas at No. 2 (7-6, 6-4) and Schmitt downed Stayt (6-3, 6-1).
