
Pirates Suffer First Home Loss To James Madison

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team suffered its first home loss Sunday as the Pirates fell to border rival James Madison, 4-2, at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.The Pirates won their first seven home matches of the year before falling to the Dukes and dropped to 8-4 overall.
The Dukes took the doubles point first, with wins in the No. 1 and 2 spots. The ECU duo of Joran Vliegen and Nicolas Soriano fell at No. 1, 8-4, while the team of Niels Cleeren and David Masciorini fell at No. 2 doubles, also 8-4. The Pirates did get a win in the No.3 spot, where John Schmitt and Patriek Wolterbeek posted an 8-4 victory.
In singles, ECU had wins in the No. 3 and 4 spots to stay in the match, as Cleeren beat his opponent 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 and Damien Brenard won at No. 4, 6-2, 7-5. The Dukes posted straight set victories at the No. 1, 2 and 5 positions to claim the victory. The match at the No. 6 position was unfinished since JMU had already secured the victory.
The Pirates will return to courts on Tuesday, March 6 against The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
