GEORGETOWN, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team sits alone in fifth-place after two rounds of competition at the General Hackler Championship being played at the 7,189, par-71 DeBordieu Club.The Pirates trail No. 17 North Florida by seven strokes for the overall team lead. The 15-team field, featuring seven of the nation's top 50 teams.
ECU carded two-round cumulative team score of 21-over 589 (292-297). The Pirates held a two-stroke lead over Augusta State at the end of the first round, but fell to fifth as North Florida posted a second round total of 280 to move from sixth-place into first. UNF fired a two-round total of 14-over 582 (300-282) and holds a two-stroke lead over No. 9 Arkansas (297-287=587) and a five-stroke advantage over No. 21 New Mexico (296-291=587) and No. 50 Augusta State (294-293=587).
ECU senior Adam Stephenson and sophomore Ryan Eibner ended the first two rounds of the General Hackler Championship in the top-10 individually. Stephenson is tied for fifth after he carded a 2-over 144 (69-75), while Eibner is tied for seventh at 3-over 145 (72-73).
Senior Harold Varner shot 7-over 149 (75-74) to tied for 23rd, while junior Eric Brady is tied for 39th at 10-over (76-76=152) and senior David Watkins is tied for 51st (81-75=156).
Sean Dale of UNF leads the field at 3-under 139 (69-70). Peter Valasek of Coastal Carolina is in second-place at 1-under 141 (70-71).
The 54-hole event will conclude Monday with tee times ranging from 7:30-9:10 am starting off the first and 10th holes.
