
ECU Drops Second Straight Match By One Set

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina men's tennis team suffered its second straight loss Sunday afternoon, falling to George Washington 4-3, to fall to 10-6 overall this season. The Pirates also lost to Campbell on Friday by a 4-3 margin.
GWU jumped out to an early lead by claiming two of the three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 advantage. In singles, five out of six matches were straight set victories. The Colonials swept the No. 1-3 positions with the Pirates' winning each of the lower-seeded flight. John Schmitt rallied from a set down to win at No. 4 over Richard Blumenfeld (1-6, 6-1, 6-2). Damien Brenard and Mario Martinez posted victories at the No. 5 and 6 positions to account for ECU's three points.
East Carolina will be back in action Wednesday, March 21 as it hosts UNC Greensboro.
