
ECU Edges Charlotte For Second Straight Road Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team posted its second straight road win with a 4-3 victory over Charlotte at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on Thursday. Both programs are now 10-4 on the season.
The Pirates captured the doubles point when John Schmitt and Patriek Wolterbeek posted a 9-7 win over Paul Cisti and Anthony Davison at the No. 3 position after the two teams split the first two flights. Joran Vliegen and Niels Cleeren recorded the first win of the day as they defeated the duo of Alex Calott and Jack Williams, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot. Nicolas Soriano and Mario Martinez were defeated at No. 2, 8-4, by the 49er tandem of Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz.
The two teams split the six singles matches. Vliegen defeated Williams at No. 1 in straight sets (7-6, 6-1) as did Soriano at No. 3 over Calott (6-2, 7-6). Schmitt rallied from a set down to win at No. 4 to defeat Cisti (5-7, 6-4, 6-4), to clinch the victory.
ECU returns to the courts against Campbell on Friday, March 16. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at the ECU Tennis Complex.
