East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening Statement
"It's always nice to start the season with a win, but it was also nice to have the chance to play as many players as we had the chance to tonight. There are a lot of new faces. Obviously you needed your roster tonight to figure out who was out there. I did too. You never know how they are going to respond when they put on the uniform and they turn on the lights and put people in there to watch them. We did some good things, but we have some areas in which we need to get much better.
"I think you saw some of the talent of our freshmen. Caleb White and Brandan Stith both did a lot of nice things out there for us. [Junior] Antonio Robinson was outstanding with six assists and no turnovers."
On the offense
"We are going to rely on Paris [Roberts-Campbell] and Akeem [Richmond] to be aggressive offensively for us and I thought Paris was aggressive offensively in shooting the basketball and making the right play. It was hard game for the big guys because of how they play. They have a lot of perimeter guys, smaller guys and faster guys.I thought Marshall [Guilmette] rebounded the ball well early and I think he did some good things for us. We shared the ball well and passed the ball well. They made us defend from all periods of time, which is hard but I thought we did some good things. I saw some positive things and things we need to work on."
On Paris Roberts-Campbell's performance
"If we get that every night we will be happy. I thought he shot the ball with confidence. He took the right shots. He wasn't hesitant. He was comfortable out there. You don't see all the value he brings to our team on the stat sheet. On the other end he is by far our best defensive player."
Junior Guard Paris Roberts-Campbell
On his offense:
"I've been working on my game all summer, and I knew I needed to start the season of on the right note. I wanted to be aggressive and attack when I could."
On the team's performance:
"I think after the first half, we kind of settled down. We came into the locker room and talked about it. We started playing more team ball in the second half, and got everybody involved."
On his career-high and scoring:
"I knew my career-high was 17, and when I came out I heard them say I had 17 at the half. But I didn't know how much I ended up with until now."
"I just try to stay aggressive. I'm a team player. I'd rather get everyone else involved, and get in where I fit in. But I know I also have to be more aggressive offensively and keep looking for my shot."
Freshman Forward Caleb White
On his first collegiate game:
"I tried to come out and attack the rim as much as possible. That first jump shot wasn't too pretty, so I figured I'd get to the rack to help out how I could."
On his performance:
"Getting to the rim, getting out in transition, and the chance to get easy buckets; That gets you in the flow of the game. I took the first jump shot, and I didn't think I was going to hit anything. But as the game went on, I had a couple of possessions, and I settled down."
Junior Guard Francis Edosomwan
On his performance: "It was crazy. I was tired! I had never seen that kind of action before. I was just blessed, and I tried to play my hardest. Coaches are always giving me the opportunity to show it. I don't do a lot of things, but I know I can play hard, and I can control that. I asked God `help me to play hard and not die out there on the court.' Once I made that first shot, I was just comfortable and I tried to play my game, tried to pass, and tried to do whatever the team needed me to do. And like I said, it was just a blessing."
"I've been practicing a lot more, so I know the situations. I know how to execute. The coaches have really worked with me. Everything just feels natural."
