IRVING, Texas - East Carolina sophomore Jeff Hoffman has been named Conference USA Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week following his complete game, one-hit shutout against N.C. Central last week the league office announced Monday.
Hoffman picked up his third win of the season Friday night, tossing a one-hit complete game shutout against N.C. Central, striking out seven batters and walking three. He allowed just two runners to reach scoring position and retired 27 of 32 batters faced - including nine of the final 10 batters to close out the victory and faced the minimum of three batters in six-of-nine frames.
Five of his seven strikeouts ended an inning and he had multiple punch-outs in the second and fifth frames. Hoffman's complete game was the first of his career and it was the first Pirate one-hit complete game shutout since Ricky Brooks' gem against Charlotte back on March 26, 2005.
This is the second career weekly honor for the right-hander following his selection back on Apr. 10, 2012 after a 10-strikeout performance at Elon in eight shutout frames.
The Pirates will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 2 when they play host to No. 27 NC State at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET).
