
ECU In Championship Contention Heading Into Third Round

RALEIGH, N.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team is in third-place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate after shooting 7-over-par 575 through two rounds at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the Centennial Campus of NC State University Monday.
The Pirates started the day off with a first round 287 at the par 71, 7,307-yard layout before firing a second-round 288. NC State leads the tournament heading into the final round after producing a 566 total through the first 36 holes with East Tennessee State's Adrian Meronk holding the individual lead at 4-under-par.
Three players are a single stroke behind Meronk, who has the Buccaneers in second place at 569, with another 10 players within four strokes of the overall lead.
Junior Wes Conover led ECU on Monday by firing a 2-under, 140 after two rounds. The Holly Springs native finished off his first round with two birdies on the final six holes to move from par to 2-under. He birdied No. 1 to start round two and then pared 12 straight holes before a bogey on No. 14 to fall back to par. His 28 pars Monday were second-most among the 93 player field.
George Kilgore is tied for 15th place after posting a 1-over-par 143 on Monday over 36 holes. A junior from Raleigh, Kilgore fired a first-round 71 before posting 1-over-par 72 in the second round. Jacob Hicks shot 1-over-par in each round to conclude day one tied for 18th at 2-over-par. Al Dickens is tied for 33rd at 6-over-par 148 (75-73).
Freshman Tim Conover and redshirt sophomore Josh Chandler, who is playing as an individual, are part of 10-way for 42nd at 8-over-par 150.
The final round begins on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start. East Carolina will play alongside NC State and East Tennessee State with the first group teeing off No. 1 at 9:40 a.m.
