Pirates Claim Third At Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. --- Led by junior Wes Conover's third-place finish, the East Carolina men's golf team placed third at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the Centennial Campus of NC State University.
The Pirates fired a third round score of 4-over 288 in Tuesday's final round to finish the tournament in third with a 54-hole score of 11-over 863. Host NC State claimed the team title with score of 6-under 846. East Tennessee State placed second at 3-over-par 855. Georgia Southern and UNCG tied for fourth-place at 16-over 868.
Conover recorded his third top-6 finish of the year in as many events, with a 4-under 209 after shooting a 2-under 69 in Tuesday's final round. He recorded two birdies and pared 16 of his tournament-best 44 holes. The Holly Springs native finished one stroke behind NC State's David Cooke and East Tennessee State's Adrian Meronk, who tied for individual medalist honors at 5-under 208.
George Kilgore shot a 3-over-par 216 to finished tied for 14th. He entered Tuesday's final round at 1-under-par and carded a 2-over 73 to set his final score. Kilgore made the turn at 1-under, but posted three bogeys on the back nine to fall to 2-over on the day. Jacob Hicks tied for 27th at 7-over 220 after shooting 5-over 76 during round three.
Freshman Tim Conover shot par-71 in the third round and tied for 31st with an 8-over 221. Senior Al Dickens tied for 37th at 10-over 223 with Josh Chandler finishing one stroke behind his teammate in 41st at 11-over 224.
ECU will return to the links Oct. 11-12 and the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham at the Duke Golf Club.
