WILMINGTON, N.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team is currently in 11th after 36 holes of the 2014 Seahawk Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the UNC Wilmington, is being played at the Country Club of Landfall's Nicklaus Course.
Amidst rain and dropping temperatures, the Pirates posted a 10-over 298 in the morning round, but dropped 14 shots to a 24-over 312 in the afternoon to move down one spot to 11th at 34-over 610. South Carolina is the 36-hole leader at 16-under 576. East Tennessee State is second at 3-over, followed by Ohio State and Louisville tied for third at 5-over. Davidson rounds the top five at 10-over.
Sophomore Wes Conover leads the Pirates through the first two rounds in 29th at 5-over 179. Senior Ryan Eibner shot a 1-over 73 in the morning followed by a 7-over 79 to sit in a tie for 38th at 8-over 152. Redshirt freshman Al Dickens is next at 11-over 153, while senior Eric Brady is tied for 56th at 12-over 156. Stephen Lavenets rounds out the Pirates' five-man team with a 17-over 171, tying freshman Clay Brown, who is playing as an individual.
South Carolina's Will Clarke is the 36-hole leader at 7-under 137, including an 8-under 64 in the morning round. Davidson's Sam Echikson is one shot back at 6-under 138 with Matthew NeSmith of South Carolina at 5-under 137.
The final round begins Monday at 8 a.m., with the Pirates playing alongside Army and Navy off the No. 10 tee at 9:30 a.m.
