Pirates Take To Courts On Day One of Fall Shootout

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team collected five singles wins and three doubles victories to open its 2014 fall season Friday on day one of the Pirate Fall Shootout being held at the River Birch Tennis Center and ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
The day began with the Pirates claiming three singles matches from Richmond opponents and one each from Coastal Carolina and UNCG foes at the River Birch Tennis Center. Senior Nicolas Soriano and sophomore Fredric Lehfeldt each won in straight sets with senior Damien Brenard proving triumphant in three sets during outdoor competition.
Seniors Ross Nigro and Patriek Wolterbeek completed the singles round with victories at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. Nigro was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Richmond's Jonathan Quenard, while Wolterbeek rallied from a set down to defeat James Aronson of Richmond 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Tapfuma and Wolterbeek teamed up to defeat the James Madison duo of Sebastian Salinas and Miljan Ruzic, 8-2, in the first doubles match of the day. Brenard and Nigro paired for an 8-3 win over UNCG's Connor Thompson and Nazhone Wilkins, 8-3.
Sophomore Mile Holvoet joined Countee to complete the Pirates' perfect day with a win over JMU's team of Stephen Goldman and Mason Smith, 8-1, during the 4 o'clock doubles pairings.
The Pirate Shootout will continue Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the River Birch Tennis Center.
